Introduction: Today there is a global increase in social mobility, medical personnel are increasingly in contact with patients of other cultures and nationalities. During the treatment process, communication barriers may occur that hinder or prevent the effective delivery of medical services.

Aim of the work: To discuss the obstacles in communication between the patient and medical personnel. Present ways of overcoming them concerning relations with people from different civilization, which is the culture of Islam.

Discussion: The paper is chiefly concerned with the treatment of infertility of patients professing an Islam. Medical procedures from the point of view of Islam are presented, i.e. collection of material for semen analysis, assisted reproduction techniques (ART) including intrauterine insemination or in vitro fertilization. Next, the principles of care for a Muslim woman during physical examination and food supply are presented. Other aspects of the life of Muslims were also presented, i.e. taking medicines during Ramadan, problems with the supply of vitamin D3.

Conclusions: The migration of the population and globalization have caused medical staff to increasingly often come into contact with the "other" patient. The care of the patient assumes that he or she is seen as a partner in the whole process of treatment and care. In order to achieve good results, the "culturally different" patient, his attitude and values must be respected. At the same time, one should be aware of communication barriers that may occur at every stage of a given process
