How effective is ablation therapy for cardiac arrhythmias?

Laurent Pison* and Harry J Crijns

Techniques for catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias have evolved considerably since their introduction into clinical practice 30 years ago. Catheter ablation has become the first-line therapy for many types of tachycardia, but the treatment of persistent atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in patients with structural heart disease remains challenging. New technologies and hybrid therapies have been introduced to further improve outcomes and effectiveness.
